About Us.

Formed from an idea in March of 1991, by a small group of Star Trek followers who would regularly meet up and discuss the world wide phenomenon over a few beers.

From these meetings, an idea was formed, that the RAF needed it's own Star Trek Club, and on Stardate 920626.3, Simon Todd announced to an unsuspecting world that there was a new club on the block. That club was, the Royal Air Force Star Trek Association (RAFSTA).

Formed exclusively to offer serving members of the  Royal Air Force their own fan club. Membership was later extended to her sister branches, service dependants and civilians employed by the MoD who had something to offer the club.

In 2001, during the AGM, it was proposed to change the name of the club, to reflect its new direction to encompass all styles and genres of SyFy, and so the name changed to the Royal Air Force SyFy & Trek Association. In 2007, in a very close vote, the name was changed again to the Royal Air Force SyFy & Fantasy Association (RAFSFY), again growing to encompass the fantasy genre. 

In later years it was decided during an AGM that the acronym should return to RAFSTA. A nod back to our founding roots and the endeavours of those first members, some of whom are still with the club today. A testament to the stubbornness of those members to "not go quietly into the night", and who still to this day follow our simple values and ethos of "Boldly Going..." Albeit nine times out of ten, that 'Going' is usually to the bar for another round of drinks.

RAFSTA is constantly changing, a club that values its members and what they bring to the table, either in a suggestion, an idea, or through giving up their free time to help run the associations various duties.
